PERILS OF PREDICTABILITY

Predictability creates an identifiable pattern. It gets you in the comfort zone. It is repetitive, monotonous and makes you rigid. It breeds boredom. By being predictable, you get labeled and pigeon-holed. It sets expectations, and you start believing that you are your label. Now your behavior matches your belief, and your label becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. You are now like a lion in a cage – tamed, domesticated, and predictable, unlike the lion in the wilderness – natural, courageous, and strong.

Predictability provides an illusion of safety. But the universe is random and unpredictable, and when the illusion of safety gets shattered, you become confused and paralyzed.

When you deviate from your established predictable behavior, expectations are shattered. It is unsettling to people around you. They try hard to get you to fall in line with punishments and inducements.

You pay a steep price for being predictable in an unpredictable universe. You become a big burden on yourself.

Are you fixed by heavy routines and predictable quirks like a caged lion? Or, are you light, agile, fluid, and on top of your game?
